A fair debate

November 4, 2019 9:46 PM

The recent announcement of having debates was something I was looking forward to seeing. However when it became clear that it would be the tired and worn out "red vs blue" I became frustrated.

There isn't any justification for a head to head. The Liberal Democrats are a surging party, we have seen a record number of new members, over 700 new councillors and 10 new councils in May. We finished 2nd in the Euro Elections. We have MPs joining us in Parliament and our by-election victories at council level and parliamentary are numerous.

We have a growing swell of support for our ideals and positions. No, they aren't for everyone and hence why we have so many different political parties. Personally I don't agree with them but I maintain and would fight for their right to exist and make their positions clear to voters.

For any serious UK TV debate the Liberal Democrats should be involved, especially when we have the Conservatives who have made their position very clear and the Labour party who have made their position completely muddled but essentially looks as though they might deliver a form of Brexit (judging by Rebecca Long-Bailey's here) but we'll have to wait and see.

I hope ITV see sense and open it up for Jo Swinson to join the debate #debateher
